6 ways SMART goal setting will revolutionize your advertising planning

Often times we set goals, whether they are personal or business related, only to abandon them, forget them or fail to achieve them – think last year’s New Year’s resolution. Even though we may not always be successful in achieving our goals, in business it’s incredibly important to have them.

How do you know whether or not you are successful if you do not set goals? SMART goals will help motivate your team, streamline implementation and increase financial gains. They are important because if you don’t know how effective your marketing is, you won’t understand what you want it to accomplish.

Some examples of SMART goals are:

  • Generate 300 qualified leads in each quarter of 2015.
  • Hit $150,000 in top line revenue from new customers in 2015.

Creating goals can seem daunting, and there are a lot of factors to consider.

Here are six tips to help you set achievable marketing goals:

1. Understand Obstacles:

It is important when setting your goals to understand any potential challenges in reaching this goal. Noting these challenges upfront will help you be realistic and be proactive in overcoming them.

2. Have an Implementation Plan:

While it’s in your best interest to set marketing goals, if you have no plan in place to help you achieve those goals, your probability of reaching or exceeding them is low.

3. Review your Goals:

Once you have set your goals, you should review them periodically. How are you doing? Make adjustments to your implementation plan if you need to.

4. Don’t Over Do It:

If you set too many goals, you may not achieve much of anything. Remain focused and don’t have too many competing priorities.

5. Believe:

If you believe in your goals this will help you stay motivated and inspire others.
